Professor John Luh
Department of Electrical Engineering
Purdue University
West Lafayette, Ind. 47907

Dear Professor Luh:

\J
I have just shipped another set of parts. This shipment
includes the outer joint potentiometer elements, the tachometers for
joints 4 ,5 and 6, and a few extra parts. I have had some trouble
with the encoder for joint #3 and am presently negotiating with the
manufacturer for a different type. Thus, this item will be sent
later. I am still waiting for some of the parts associated with the
wiring of the arm and will send you them when they arrive. In the
meantime, you should go ahead and finish the mechanical assembly as I
anticipate no large changes. The #3 encoder mounts externally, and thus does
not require disassembly of the arm to install.

As I feel I have sent you the major part of the component
set, I am sending Purdue an invoice for $5,500 out of the $6,500
price. The other $1,000 will be billed when I deliver the one
remaining encoder and the wiring materials and connectors. Please be
as prompt as you can with payment as I am operating on a very limited
budget and am keyed into prompt payment of my invoices.

I have also enclosed some more assembly details, which should
clarify the picture a bit furthur. My present schedule calls for me
to go East around May 15, so I will not be able to pass by Purdue
before about May 25. In any event, I will let you know my definite
plans in advance. In the meantime, don't count on me at any definite
time, as I could even be a week or two late again. \.
