I am willing to consider specific hardware proposals accompanied by
a description of the research they are in support of. Let me remind you,
however, that much of our manpower is tied up in implementing a major
hardware task - the PDP-11+SPS-41+ZONKER - of which you were one of the
 main advocates and presumed beneficiaries.
General agitation and complaints about LES's attitude unless accompanied
by specific proposals about which we can argue. Unfortunately, it is hard
for me to conclude that the main problem with mobile vehicle research is
lack of hardware, because after more than five years there is still no
software and hardware plan, which if implemented successfully, would result in
driving the cart around the lab. Guidance by horizon is only a limited
 goal.
If you and Baumgart and Binford or any two thereof as the research
associates interested in vision were to come up with a plan and include it
in your draft of the new proposal, it would have a high chance of funding
if it didn't cost too much.

 Subject: ARPA PROPOSAL, 1975 + 2

As previously advertised, it is now time to write our ARPA proposal
for the two year period beginning 1 July 1975.

Your section should include a summary of recent accomplishments, with
suitable bragging about significant work. There should be a
bibliography of books, articles, reports, and films that are relevant
to an understanding of this work, including publications of outside
people where appropriate. You will probably save time by building on
our recent annual report [AIM-252], which is available in the
document room and on the disk in RECENT.PUB[D,LES].

I would welcome suggested changes and additions to our list of
"bullets" given at the beginning of Section 2 [page 3 of the printed
version, page 6 on the disk].

You should attempt to identify new directions that our research
should take and the reasons why you think the work is important. The
treatment should be aimed at readers who are knowledgeable in
computer science, but not necessarily in your speciality. Try to
convey the objectives of your work and the general approach, but keep
it informal and don't try to cover everything.

If you forsee any special hardware or system development
requirements, lay them out and we will try to estimate the costs.

I need your input no later than Monday, December 2. Happy Thanksgiving.

I have just been reading the cohu book.
they do not define distortion. they just
dont make cameras below 2%. I expect they
mean peak local distortion. It is possible
for example that the cart camera is a good
as it can be expected to be.

please analyze your tv camera geometric distortion
data and arrive at a % distortion for each.

 Checking on Nulls in strings.
 I have hand-coded radix sort routine. UDP1:SORT.FAI[LIB,JAM]

 EXTERNAL PROCEDURE SORT(ARRAY KEYS,DATA; INTEGER N);

Arrays may be integer or floating point. Sorts both arrays
in place according to numbers in KEYS. Smallest ends up
 first, largest last.
