The Internet is a connected set of networks including the nationwide ARPAnet,
the Stanford Ethernet, and local networks at a variety of sites around the
country and in a few foreign countries. Computers on the Internet, called
"hosts", use a common protocol that makes the actual means of connection
transparent to users.
SU-AI is connected to the Internet through both the ARPAnet and the Stanford
Ethernet. Internet service is available to all users. The basic services
available are:
TELNET Log in as a user on another host.
FTP Send and retrieve files to and from other hosts.
MAIL Send and receive text messages from users at other hosts.
Type HELP NETDOC for information about network documentation, and HELP NETWRK
for information about writing network programs.
